A The 44th Annual NILE Stock Show & Rodeo is quickly approaching and as coaches and teams are preparing, I want to touch base with all of the FFA Chapters and 4-H Clubs that have participated in the NILE Livestock and Sales & Service Contests. This year’s dates for the NILE Stock Show and Rodeo are October 19-22, 2011 at MetraPark in Billings. For FFA Advisors, you are very aware this is directly on top of the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis. This was an extremely tough decision for us as our youth contests and involvement in the Jr. Fed Shows and Breed Shows are a high priority to the NILE. However, the decision involved several factors, such as securing long term dates with MetraPark and minimizing conflicts with other regional and national events for future years. This year appears to be the only year in which the NILE will be over the top of the National FFA Convention. This Year and Plans for the Future
As you read above, the event has been schedule for November 3-5, 2011. However, looking ahead to 2012, they are planning to hold the event towards the first half of the week in which we will be holding the NILE Stock Show & Rodeo (October 17-20, 2012). Here are answers to some questions you might have: 1.) Where do I get registration information and where do I send it? The Montana FFA Foundation will be handling all registrations for all contests and events. Event information and registration forms can be downloaded at: www.montanaffa.org. Ramey Lunceford-Director 2.) Will Northwest College (Powell, WY) continue to manage the Livestock Evaluation Contest? YES! NWC has done a tremendous job facilitating the Livestock Evaluation Contest for the NILE. It was imperative that they continue to do so. Quinn LaFollet is the Livestock Judging Coach at NWC and will be the Superintendent of the contest. I am confident they will continue to provide one of the best contests your team can compete at. The scoring of the Livestock Contest as well as all the contests that are a part of the SAE will be the responsibility of the Foundation as they will be utilizing JudingCard.com. 3.) What about the Sales & Service Contest? There will continue to be a Sales & Service Contest that is ran by the same committee as in the past. I am aware that some changes have been made at the national level in this contest. Those changes will be reflected in this contest as well. In conclusion, I would like to say how excited the NILE is to be a part of this event as it moves to Billings. The potential of this event is incredible! Besides your national contests, this event will offer more contests, challenging competition, and excellent educational components for both your younger students and your seasoned participants, than any other event in the country. The invitation is out there for any FFA Chapter and 4-H Club/Team to participate in the Student Ag Expo. What a great opportunity and I hope to see you in Billings in November this year and at the NILE is 2012! Sincerely, |
